Which is the better way to cover grey? I have naturally dark hair with grey coming in around the sid

a few hairs here and there on top that are grey. Is it better to highlight and "blend" the grey, or is it better to try and cover with a color that is natural to your own?

I have similar hair color, same issue. I use Clairol's Natural Instincts in a shade close to my own, or slightly lighter (was using Nutmeg, now I've decided I slightly prefer Hazelnut, which is a shade lighter than mine). It is a semi-permanent color, so it washes out after 25-28 shampoos, which means you don't have obvious roots as your hair starts to grow out. It can't lighten your hair -- it will just blend gray hairs in and make them look like highlights. (You can make your hair a little more red or golden looking, but it won't be lighter.) It is also really gentle, so it won't fry your hair. Don't use a shade darker than your hair -- it really is better to go the same color or one shade lighter. I get compliments on my hair all the time, and a couple of people have told me how lucky I am not to have gray hair! It's also cheap and easy to use, and it you don't like it, it will wash out eventually (faster if you shampoo right away and use a clarifying shampoo). FYI -- the box says that if you have more than 50% gray, you should use a permanent hair color instead.

By the way, it makes my hair super-shiny -- have been using it about once a month for a couple of years, so it is clearly not damaging to hair. (Honest, I promise I don't work for Clairol, I just really like this product!)

I've never tried to blend the gray. Gray hair tends to look like "gray hair" no matter what (imo). I color it myself. Of course you can try the highlighting first to see how it looks!

I have been told %26amp; heard that it's true , that once you start coloring , you'll have it to do. I dont mean to rhyme but i do it all the time.

seriously. there are natural recipes you can use on ;your hair. before i died it, i would hi-lite it. but try the coffee recipe i use for body, if you have dark hair.

take about 1/2 cup of left over grounds, boil it in a quart of water, til it's really good %26amp; strong. em ! let it cool, strain, put it on your hair dry-------let it dry %26amp; wash it out.(you might have enuf to do it twice.)

i use it for body %26amp; bounce. It works. You cant tell i've done any color to mine, except my dad. it looks tinted red to him. -- it will wash out , so will hair colors. bu t it has no ammonia to hurt your hair.

unless you are in your 20's, why worry so much about it, if you color it, often it looks just that colored, if you try to highlight, it just looks like you are highlighting, either way usually to cover the gray, it not like most people could not tell. I think women are finally getting to the stage men are at, some gray is natural, so why try to be so vain about it, just look at it this way, once you start, you will have to keep coloring it to cover it up as it grows out

I would use a Clairol that covers the grey. One close to your hair color.

I have naturally dark hair and i have had grey hair since my teens, it has never really bothered me, i have coloured my hair and i use a hair dye that is as close as i could get to my natural hair colour and you wouldn't even notice that i dye my hair.

I think the main thing to do is to get a natural looking colour, there is nothing worse than those fake blue black colurs because they make you look very washed out and pale. Good Luck!!
