I have a Chow X that is 14. I already have his grave dug. Not wishing him an early death but I had a young man helping me so I had him dig it cause I didn't think he'd make it. But he is doing better %26amp; I feel awful for already having the grave dug.

I do want to get another dog when he is gone but I certainly don't wish him gone. I am glad that has made a turn for the better, he was one of 6 puppies brought to me. They were newborns with their cords still wet. He is the last of those pups.

How could the grandfather give you something after he was dead? He must have been your grandfathers dog.

It is best to get a different breed cause you will not be as likely to compare the two. Or see some of the old dog in the new dog.

How old is Snoopy? My doxie got gray hair on his muzzle when he was 2! My dad use to joke with him and call him an old man! Firecracker didnt take it personal, he would give this smirk look back as if to say right back at ya!

Your dog is old, not dead.

Um, what is your question. If we can help you figure out how to replace your dog because its old and broken to you. Hon, love your dog. Especially since he was a present out of love from your grandpa. If it where me I would treasure every moment I spent with that dog, not just because I'm an animal nut, but because it came from my grandparent.

It might not be good to introduce a new puppy to the older dog either if he's in poor health. It can be very stressful, which is never good.

My best advice is wait. Care for the dog you have now. And some where down the line, I'm sure there will be other dogs in your life.
